The court fees are levied on parties or individuals that seek the services of the court for judicial remedies. Court fees are collected to manage the administrative expenses incurred during the course of a case.

The rates of court fees for the following range of value or amount are as follows:

Exemption of court fees
- No court fee shall be charged in respect of a case in which the Government of Nepal or Provincial Government is a plaintiff, a case within the jurisdiction of the Local Level, a case involving the use of a public or government property, or a case to be proceeded with by the body specified by the Government of Nepal, by notification in the Nepal Gazette.
- Subject to Judge’s discretion the party can be exempted from paying court fees when the concerned party is not able to pay the chargeable court fees fully or partly due to their financial condition and receives local level recommendation that the person has no property except the property subject to the case.
The basis for collecting court fee
- The amount of money in the claim for the establishment of title or release from the claim of money,
- Amount rate fixed by the Nepal Rastra Bank in the claim for entitlement or claim to release from other's claim to gold, silver, pieces of jewelry or ornaments,
- The amount set by the prevailing market value or plaintiff for the concerned movable property claim,
- The value set by the stock market in the case of the claim for entitlement or claim to release any securities or treasury bills,
- The number of yields of the land of the previous year which experienced no disaster in the claim for the yields or remission of the yields of a land,
- The amount or value set by the land revenue office or tax office or local level government in the claim for entitlement or possession to release from other’s claim to immovable property,
- Residue amount after administering the functions of the trust or land income in the claim for the entitlement or claim for a release form of a trust,
- The amount of such number of years or loss of income in the claim for entitlement or release to any contract amount,
- The claimed amount specified in the deed for the mortgage of immovable property,
- The claimed amount indicated by the debtor in insolvency or date for repayment,
- Amount claimed in the provisions of salary, allowance, or installment,
- Amount of the value claimed in wages, remuneration, loss or damages,
- The value of the property claimed in principal, profit, dividend, bonus, donation, gift, interest, house or shop rent, or any property,
- Amount claimed for any compensation,
- Amount claimed for performance or recovery in contract,
Procedure for payment of court fees
- Payment of the court fee can be in cash or bank guarantee. If the party fails to pay the court fee within the period, the court shall not proceed, hear and settle such a case,
- In appeal an additional court fee shall be charged by fifteen percent of the court fee chargeable for filing a plaint,
- While paying the court fees the concerned employee shall record it as credit in the cashbook, duly prepare a receipt in triplicate, give one copy to the payer of the court fee, and retain another copy in the concerned case file,
- Party can file complain in the case of excess of court fee in the concerned court,
